Shmuel Bassman's Story
It might surprise you, but Shmuel Bassman didn’t even like music lessons as a kid.
He started piano at five, but traditional notation-based lessons felt stiff and frustrating.
By ten, he had quit. Years later in yeshiva, everything changed. He watched a friend
play lively keyboard music at a wedding, and something clicked – this was his
instrument. He taught himself to play by ear, practiced passionately, and was soon
performing at simchas himself.
When someone asked him to teach their child, Shmuel hesitated – he wasn’t a “real
teacher.” But he figured out a way to explain things simply, without notation, and that
student went on to play at weddings too. Word spread, demand grew, and so did his
frustration: he had limited time, long waiting lists, and parents who couldn’t afford
private lessons.
That’s when the first lightbulb went off: group classes. Then another: video lessons. And
from there, Bassline Pro was born. What started as one kid learning by ear became a
full-blown system that has helped over 4,000 students learn music affordably,
effectively, and joyfully.
